JH Kunstler on the Abu Ghraib thing [scroll to May 24]

Who writes this crap? Mr Kunstler is more doomy and gloomy and never-proved-right than a pentacostal prophet. One interesting thing he said:
“Their Ghawar oil field (the world’s largest), which accounts for over half of Arabian production, is so old and feeble that they have to pump millions of gallons of sea water into it a day to keep the pressure up.”
I was talking with some oil and gas field engineers last night over some McDonalds (both the meal and the conversation being hazards of my employment), some of whom have worked on the Ghawar field, and an off-the-cuff comment was made that on current estimates it could keep producing at current levels for the next 200 years. As I said, off-the-cuff and maybe not true, but at least non-partisan.
I don’t support wasteful use of natural resources, and I think Kunstler makes some good points at times, but it is always hard work trying to discern. I don’t trust left-leaning Michael Moore-ish acolytes who wish to eradicate “Republicanism” (no doubt, including its moral conservativism) to inform my opinions.
Yeah fair enough. I used to do some work for a guy who interprets seismic oil surveys and he always said there’s loads and loads of oil, enough around Canterbury alone to last NZ for centuries.
I was particularly drawing attention to JHK’s analysis of the soldiers’ indiscretions, which I think is rather helpful, rather than his oil ideas.
You might find these articles from JHK a bit better: fatties, nerds
