{"id":936,"date":"2005-07-14T00:49:39","date_gmt":"2005-07-13T12:49:39","guid":{"rendered":"\/?p=936"},"modified":"2005-07-14T01:20:32","modified_gmt":"2005-07-13T13:20:32","slug":"blog-meme-blah-blah-blah","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/mhjb.co.nz\/blog\/archives\/936","title":{"rendered":"Half-hearted blog meme"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>cos <a href=\"http:\/\/ajstewart.co.nz\/?p=249\">Aaron sort of asked<\/a>, here are the books are scattered around my bed:<\/p>\n<p><em>The Post-Evangelical<\/em>, Dave Tomlinson (lent by Cam H)<br \/>\n<em>What is a Family?<\/em>, Edith Schaeffer (given by David H)<br \/>\n<em>Grigorii Rasputin<\/em>, Alex de Jonge (stolen from Dad)<br \/>\n<em>The Lunchtime Runner<\/em> Vols I &#038; II, by Cam Hockly (bought from Cam at LR2&#8217;s launch last Saturday night)<br \/>\nAn NIV &#038; an NASB NT &#038; Psalms<br \/>\n<em>Soul Shaper<\/em>, Tony Jones (from the chaplaincy library)<br \/>\n<em>The NZ Prayer Book<\/em> (lent by the chaplain)<\/p>\n<p>O and in the lounge from memory there&#8217;s:<br \/>\n<em>The Act of Thinking<\/em> by Derek Melser<br \/>\n<em>What Saint Paul Really Said<\/em> by NT Wright<br \/>\nan unpublished handwritten manuscript of a novel about suicide<br \/>\n<em>Blue Mars<\/em> by Kim Stanley Robinson<br \/>\n<em>Ooooo&#8230;.!!!!<\/em> by Hone Tuwhare<br \/>\n<em>Penguin History of NZ<\/em> by Michael King. <\/p>\n<p>There are others but they&#8217;re slipping away.<\/p>\n<p>um <em>Pilgrim at Tinker Creek<\/em> by Annie Dillard (in fact I better read that again <small>ASAP<\/small>, <a href=\"http:\/\/mhjb.co.nz\/blog\/index.php?p=684\">dig this quote from last year<\/a>) and <em>Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance<\/em> by Robert Pirsig really blew my mind. So did <em>Ender&#8217;s Game<\/em> by Orson Scott Card. EF Schumacher good. Kim Stanley Robinson&#8217;s <em>Mars<\/em> trilogy make me want to get up in the morning. Wendell Berry is changing me. They all change me. I&#8217;m climbing Schild&#8217;s ladder, I suppose.<\/p>\n<p>I own maybe 100 books. I&#8217;d like to get rid of the stupid ones and get all the good ones in circulation; they&#8217;re pointless on (my (rented)) shelves. <\/p>\n<p>I was thinking babies probably start off thinking in emotions (like the bear in <em>That Hideous Strength<\/em>), then later in poetry, and then when they start to speak, prose.<\/p>\n<p>Tony Robbins says happiness comes from within. You set your own parameters for happiness. Like you might have decided, &#8220;I will allow myself to be happy if I succeed in this business venture&#8221; and then the condition is met (or not) and you&#8217;re happy (or not). So once you realise that, he says, you can change the conditions, and access the boundless resource of happiness which is your birthright. I&#8217;m happy now because it&#8217;s my 9,342nd day alive. And that&#8217;s fuckn amazing!
