I think the background to this was Te Rauparaha was fleeing some bad men who wished him ill and jumped into a kumera pit. Then a wahine sat on the lid and said something to the effect” he went thaddaway ” thus saving our man’s bacon. Naturally enough our hero composed the well known haka in celebration. Just in case anyone was wondering…..
it’s obviously about the crucifiction, resurrection and ascencion, no?
