I am listening to Hail to the Thief for the first time for ages this morning. Man it’s flash. “Go to Sleep” is a ripping cut. “Punch Up At A Wedding” is the only bum note.

What think ye of “Scatterbrain”? Its my personal favourite on “Hail to the Thief” – a little gem at the end.
Yeah that’s a puppy alright. I almost wish they finished the album there. But that would mean ending on resigned despair in the face of all the chomsky things, I guess “Wolf at the Door” means they’re still fighting it, the twilight. I swear Radiohead work for Adbusters or vice versa.
scatterbrain: gemilicious.
i will: even more gemilicious.
For quite a while I thought that line ‘someone’s son or someone’s daughter’ was ‘something for Soames’ daughter’ (Galsworthy, The Forsyte Saga) and I was a bit sad when I found out it wasn’t.
My two picks would ave to be “Sail to the Moon” and “There there”. I wonder who would be on the Official Reformed Church Soundtrack. I bet Ben Folds and Radiohead would dominate. Possibly some Belle and Sebastian and Supergrass. Definitely a couple from Simon and Garfunkel.
‘2+2=5’ makes me so deliriously happy to have Radiohead playing guitars again that no other track can hope to compare with it. ‘Punch Up At A Wedding’ should only be heard at about 6am on a July morning to regard its genius. Cold helps Radiohead in many ways.
I think these days you’d also find Keane on there Lynton. Oh and definitely Muse.
It would be fun to make a yearly RCNZ CD.
Speaking of music, Goldenhorse are playing in the mighty Upper Hutt next Saturday (the one after labour weekend) only $2 and there’s…FIREWORKS!!! Also, Salmonella Dub are playing this weekend I think.
Matt, you must update your clock cos the time is wrong.
Matt, I think that if we were to have a yearly RCNZ CD, you would be the man to do it. And, of course, I would have to have a large amount of input into its contents (to legitimize it). And veto rights.
I would be happy to be on the RCNZCD selection panel. Muse would feature, Keane could be, though they haven’t featured for my listening ears yet. I would push for some The Divine Comedy and Elliott Smith but that would first require their introduction to the masses.
An RCNZ comp would have to have songs that everyone knows and likes – eg. bands like Ben Folds and Muse are generally accepted (but Ben Folds is not exactly 2004). I suggest ‘Heavenly Beats’ for the title.
and by ‘everyone’, you mean of course ‘our circle of people’
