The C word
What do we recognise as the maximum dispersion beyond which a community is no longer a ‘true’ community? I’m trying to get some clarity on the concepts of community and localness, and whether or not a church has to get all super-local before it can be faithfully missional. So:
| Community | Things members share (non-definitive list) | |
|---|---|---|
| Global | trade | |
| The West | ||
| Australasia | English language, colonial history | |
| NZ | Law, 5-day working week | |
| Wellington | ||
| Newtown | New World supermarket | |
| Dutchies within NZ | customary food, Dutch language | |
| the Church | eucharist, baptism, scripture, creeds | |
| the Anglican Church | Archbishop of Canterbury, world mission | |
| Wellington Diocese | Bishop Tom, mission to Wellington | |
| S.Michael’s Kelburn | Priest David, Kelburn mission | |
| AngChap VUW | VUW mission, friendship, Priest David | |
| Brooklyn Reformed | forms of unity | |
| Urban Vision | vows, mission to e.g. Berhampore |
