Pupils

by Matthew Bartlett @ 10:02 pm

Tonight I noticed eyes are nice if you don’t look too close but they’re black and empty in the middle.

I have recently been haunted by the hollow middles
When you glance at eyes, they are so full, so flat
    But upon closer inspection
    They are not all there
Infact the black is not really black at all
But the darkest shadows you ever seen.
    It scares me

Sometimes I like to watch in the mirror as the pupil-shadows grow and shrink in the changing light.

    malthius, I hear you, man.
you think like, yeah, little black dot, nothing to worry about. but then after a closer inspection, you’re hit with the realisation that they’re actually holes. deep dark holes. windows on the soul. soul holes. and damn if eyes aren’t like the most expressive part of our face.
have you ever looked in a mirror and tried to smile at yourself without using your eyes? it looks whack, to say the least. yet you can make your eyes smile without hardly using your mouth.
in summary, eyes are both cool and scary.

  4. There was this one time when a guy I knew wrote to a Girl I knew,

“I look into your eyes, and I see eternity.”

And I thought, “You wanker.” Rest assured, they were going out a week later… for the next three years.

  5. dan says:

the eyes have it, for sure.
