Listen to my muscle memory

by Matthew Bartlett @ 10:19 am

Tom Beard’s top ten Wellington buildings (#10 to #1): Jellicoe Towers (swee), School of Architecture and Design (ug), Freyberg Pool (swee), Te Puni Kokiri house (swee), The Hannah Playhouse (ug), Umbrella Park apartments (swee), Rutherford House (swee), First Church of Christ Scientist (swee), Racing Conference building (swee), Wellington City Library (so swee)

It’s TV Turnoff Week.

Alasdair MacIntyre proposes a curriculum to heal the fragmented university

Perhaps I have two axes: sad–happy and quiet–excited. So I could plot myself in a box with corners sad/quiet, happy/quiet, happy/excited and sad/excited. I’ve been ranking how I feel out of ten quite a lot lately, and trying to get other people too as well, but that’s probably inadequate. Better would be “rate yourself out of 33 in base-4, why not?” Then 00 is sad/quiet, 21 is pretty gently chuffed, 33 is shouting happy.

  1. Some worthy additions, some not so worthy. He’s forgetting Government Buildings, which I am making a film about very soon.

turn off tv week? as in “you have found yourself watching too much, so you are not going to watch any this week”?
    or
“it’s a global anti-tv thing and everyone is encourage to do it”.

I find that I watch virtually no tv now that I have found the world of Settlers of Catan (boardgame).

  3. Matthew says:

    global (I haven’t got one)

  4. I’m a sucker for Dragon’s Den and that one with a chef who swears a lot.

  5. Tim says:

    Dragon’s Den has sadly finished.

i love your rating system. i would like it if you had a led screen on your forehead, why not? that gave an instantaneous update on your position on the grid. i have a wonder at where on the grid playing with isis makes you. I’m guessing 31?

No I didn’t forget, but my list is limited to post-war buildings.

  8. Oh. My apologies. Sorry Tom! Good call then. I agree with the bulk of the list.

I’ll turn off the telly if you stop reading silly books

  10. Matthew says:

Which books were you thinking of?

(that’s it, no more anonymous comments, fear the anonymous comment reaper)

  11. Bel says:

Where does Air-Punchingly Good fit into this?
I think you may need to think, and feel, outside of the box…

  12. richface says:

Don’t know if I’ve ever seen mhjb at or near 03

  13. Tim says:

    Richard May’s stag night.

  14. Matthew says:

    O what a night.
Also out at the beach for new year’s one time.
    Both booze-fuelled and provoked.
Man 03 almost wraps around to 33; that holy rage is at some level a really good time.

  15. Tim says:

    Both whisky-fuelled weren’t they? The devil’s tipple.
