‘The walls between art and engineering exist only in our minds’ is one thing but BMW ‘defining innovation’ is quite another. Theo Jansen is quite an impressive artist in my book but a car company just tagging their brand on to his genius is not very convincing. They don’t even show any examples of this innovation in the commercial. i suppose he needed the money but I wish he hadn’t linked up with them..
Agreed… my preference is struggling artist.
I think they’re trying to say that BMW is to average car companies as Theo Jansen is to average artists. And when you look at some of their engineering innovations and compare them to his artistic ones, I can see the logic (as far as I can with any advertising).
I have a book Banker to the Poor by Muhammad Yunus, the Bangladeshi economist who apparently invented microcredit, which convinced me it is worth doing. A while back D posted this article sceptical of microcredit but I confess it did not make a huge impression on me, though it did make me think carefully about which projects to support on kiva.org.
I think capital should serve labour and not vis versa, and this seems a step in that direction.
Thanking you kindly for coming Matthew. It was great having you there, you and your intellectual laughter.
In other news, I now am a registered commenting ghoul. Be wary.
