in regards to the Leithart article : as much as i value the roles of wives/mothers/daughters/sisters i also value the role of ‘person’, and don’t think that by denying the other roles put on women (not that i think feminists deny ALL of them) that all they have left is ‘sex object’. Surely we can relate to one another as people.

Because I found them poignant. It’s the funeral of a farmer. I like the particularness, and connected to the land & town-ness.
Bryan, I had exactly the same thought. It seems to me that PL’s argument is silent on major qualifications to it. Although I am attracted to the basic point.

I bawled in that movie. Well, wept copiously. Not because it was a good movie but because it has a certain relevance (same reason I cry in the first half of Mulan). The song was Very Good and did not help my emotional state at all.
