Cricket

by Tim @ 4:34 pm

The Black Caps are touring that place where the queen lives at the moment. Anybody slightly interested in cricket will be thrilled to know that the king , Shane Bond, is back in action and in scintillating form leading in to the first test. How can you not be filled with awe and wonder when you see that man in action? His perfect bowling technique leading to breath taking pace and accuracy sends a chill down the spine of any onlooker (apart from most of the people who read Matt’s blog). Shane Bond provided me with one of my most beautiful memories when he ripped the Australians apart in 2002, I look forward to seeing him in all his magnificence as he destroys the Poms next week.

yes tim, i too am eargerly awaiting Bondies magnificent yorker that will split stumps in 2. It has been too long…

Did I mention that Shane Bond is a Cantabrian? No, I don’t think I did. Shane Bond is a policeman from Canterbury.

I yearn for the sound of leather on willow

  4. sternum says:

Or the sound of plastic on rubber if you play kiwi cricket.

Whoa, major hijack of this blog, what happened to the sensitive poetic whimsy we all love?

I must admit, I have seen better starts to tours. I did like Graeme Hick’s 204* off 204 balls against them at Worcester. They haven’t done too well against Kent either.

I used to enjoy this site. Before it got all blokey.

a bit of an update tim: bracewell has decided not to play bond in the first test. disappointing i know, but probably a good call.

It will be interesting to see if Bond can come back with the same devastating form with his remodelled action. Enough about sports, bring back self-indulgent armchair theology.

Further update: NZ lost to Kent by 9 wickets.

Al, I notice you reside in England. Perhaps you could give us the ‘inside word’ on what the english media and public think of the Black Caps…and our darling, Shane Bond.

Whats with all these woosys? Poetic whimsey? Armchair theology?

    GIVE ME STRENGTH

Well, cricket is not awfully big over here at the moment. The beginning of the NZ tour has been somewhat eclipsed by the end of the football season (Arsenal being the first team to go unbeaten for a season in over 100 years). Nor have the games against Worcestershire and Kent have not gone well for NZ.

I am a bit disappointed that Bond won’t be in action in the first Test. It would have added a bit more spark. After 2002 and 1999, however, no one is prepared to write off NZ. I, for one, am expecting a very good series.

Yes, Arsenal’s season was definitely one to remember. Well, do keep us posted on any interesting british tabloid rumours re the kiwis. By the way, assuming you’re a general sports buff, are you looking forward to the arrival of Ali Lauatiti to the english rugby league scene?
