    Not necessarily useless – if you can see the background against which Troy should be understood (i.e. Homer’s version) you will surely have a much better grasp of what the movie people are trying to say, and can pass that on to us plebs.

    Umm, aah, not plebs – I got the background from a (thick, I hasten to add) picture book I bought years ago at a library sale for thirty cents. I’ve never read the Illiad, and now my secret is out.

    Interesting that even someone who knows the Illiad only from a picture book has a far deeper grasp of the story than the stupid hollywood-lets-make-money-from-brad-pitt-in-a-skirt philistines that made the movie.
