Vertigo again

by Matthew Bartlett @ 1:02 pm

I collect stories of intellectual vertigo. A man I met yesterday evening said he experienced what might be called spiritual vertigo upon realising that suffering pain hardship is not optional. It was a shock to him when he realised God didn’t make it easy for even the best man, Jesus. God didn’t even give him a choice. Terrifying.

call me a computer science student, but since when did ‘suffering pain hardship’ make sense?

  2. hans says:

“Didn’t even give Him a CHOICE”????????????????????????????? What does that say about our loving Lord’s obedience unto death, hell and separation??????? Of course He had a choice, the gospel is meaningless without His love-based choice to obey.

  3. Matthew says:

Does a mother have a choice about whether or not she’ll help her child when it is in danger?

  4. hans says:

Of course, do you wish to reduce sacrificial love to some sort of operant response?

    Jono: Never.
    Hans: Amen.

i bet jesus didn’t see it as a choice. he loved/s us and there was only one thing he ever would have done.
