Brother William says:

Live every day as if every person you meet is going to die tomorrow.

    Would that make any difference?
    Do people really care?
The most important word in this is “every”,
I am afraid that if people are honest unless it
was someone close to them, they wouldn’t care
    at all.

I think Brother William has a nice sentiment, but it can only be a reminder not to be callous, rather than a prescription that must be fulfilled to the letter. It’s not possible, I suggest, to actually carry out what he says. It would require constant investment of massive ammounts of emotional energy – which nobody can do.

So, Anonymous – the observation that people don’t show such care except to those they are close to doesn’t necessarily reflect a bad situation – merely a realistic one in which people have to pick and choose. It’s only bad if those who need help – and show it – don’t get it, because people make the wrong choices.

    I reckon, anyway.

I think the quote is about treating people as ends rather than means,
or as pockets of concentrated infinity/spirit rather than props in a one-man show.

hmm, bit of a stretch, I reckon, but alright – if that’s what’s meant then it seems like a Good Thing
