Rueben Thorne for All Blacks recall

by Tim @ 7:08 pm

I know this will get all you one-eyed Wellingtonians up in arms… I wouldn’t be surprised if Rueben Thorne gets picked for the All Blacks squad to tour Europe. He has had a very solid NPC and played well in the final. His replacement in the All Blacks last year, Jono Gibbes, has not had a great season. I think Thorne would be a good back up for Jerry Collins who has to be the number one blindside flanker in NZ right now.

Oh and by the way, in case anyone had forgotten, Canterbury won the final! Ha! Thank you. That is all.

  2. Thorne couldn’t captain his way out of a caftan, but I’ll give him credit as a player. It’d be nice to see him in a tour again eh. And long live Canterbury! I have no time for inconsistent teams, and the Canties never let me down. Ish.

I didn’t say he should be captain. He obviously lacks in that area. So far Canterbury has an unbeaten record with Richie McCaw at the metaphorical helm. I like that.

You have no time for inconsistent teams Daniel? yet you support canterbury? Um, didn’t they loose to wellington in their first game? Consider: the Lions only lost 2 games in the season and had one draw; the Lambs also lost 2 games in the season and had one draw. The Lions finished top of the table and had a better points differential. In essence, they were as consistent as each other!

full credit to the cantabs. They had an outstanding game and really showed their skills. I am kind of thankful that they won. With that many all blacks in their team, if they had not won, I would have been a bit concerned. Anyways, I’m thinking there may be a few more Lions players getting the black jersey this afternoon.

I have a feeling that what Dan means is that Canty consistently finishes in the top four where as Wellington, despite their wealth of talent, can finish anywhere from last to first. However it is important to distinguish between the Hurricanes and the Lions and the Crusaders and the Canty NPC teams. Completely different. Lions have won 4 NPC titles. Canty has now won 5. So not much betweent the NPC teams over all. I won’t bother talking about Super 12, obvious.

What Lions do you think will be getting capped Dave, apart from the obvious ones like Tana? Ma’a Nonu will. Conrad? Maybe. Piri Weepu? I don’t think so. I don’t know why everyone raves about him. He’s good but I don’t think he’s that special.

  8. david says:

I’m not sure about Piri, he has had some good games but didn’t fire at all on saturday. Maybe in the future for him, but not just yet. I would say Tana, Nonu, Conrad (whom you mentioned), Collins, Kennedy (good leaning opportunity for him), Tialata (can work on both sides of the scrum and has some pace with ball in hand) and So’oialo.

Well thankfully Reuben ‘Im a thorne in the side of the allblacks’ Thorne was not selected. However, Anton Oliver was. Just goes to show, ‘ya no’

  10. you’re right about Kennedy Dave “leaning”
He’s a lock man he should be pushing!

  11. Tim says:

    Goes to show what Jono?
