to me the greatest thing was his moral courage,pro-life stand and his very large part in the downfall of comunism by celebrating mass in Poland when things were tough between Solidarity and the comunist regime. The worst legacy was his creation of more ‘saints’ than all previous popes combined

  2. dan says:

It the true sense of the word ‘saints’, creating more is good.

  3. dan says:

    sorry ‘In the true sense…’

  4. I guess you mean “in my sense of the word ‘saints'”

  5. dennis b says:

popes don’t create saints . The R.C. veiw of saints is that the intereceed on our behalf with God and/or Mary
as per the form for Lord’s Supper(blue psalter hymnal)this is not a good thing as it is unbiblical…don’t you agree Dan ?

  6. Hans says:

Hmmmmm, not sure that the blue psalter is the last word on catholic doctrine as pertaining to beatification…

  7. dennis b says:

true but food for thought speaking as a former R.C. The Roman Catholic veiw of saints and sainthood is incorrect and thus ‘creating saints right left and centre’ as did the just departed pontif was not an ‘aid to worship ‘ of the Lord jesus Christ. Have you read the Devils Advocate by Graham Green a novel about
the beatification process? I understand there are moves afoot to make John Paul 2 a saint because he was such a great guy and achieved the miracle of the down fall of communism! In my day to be a saint you had to do something ‘para normal’ ie. walk on water I guess this is just another example of the slippery slope at work!

re #4: Matt – it was short-thinking and stupid of me to bluntly state my understanding as truth. Sorry about that.
    re #5: Dennis, I agree.
